UNI men’s and women’s golf travel to Omaha

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI women's team is set to compete in its second tournament of the fall season at the "Stampede at the Creek" in Omaha, Nebraska. The ladies are coming off a 12th-place finish at the Redbird Invitational in Illinois. The Panther men's team is ready for action at the Bluejay Invitational, also in Omaha, Nebraska. This is their third tournament of the season after a 15th-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas.
Both tournaments are scheduled for Sept. 21-30, as the men will be teeing off at the Indian Creek Golf Course. This course sits at 7,013 yards and has a par of 72. The women's team will compete at Shadow Ridge Country Club. The course plays at 6,143 yards and has a par of 72.
The first two rounds of the Bluejay Invitational on Monday will have a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. The format is 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday. This is an individual tournament with no team scoring. The Panther men will compete against a 10-team field, including Creighton (host), Kansas State, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Northern Iowa, Iowa, Nebraska, Omaha, Bradley, and Lindenwood.
On the ladies' side, the Stampede at the Creek will start on Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 AM CT. The UNI women will compete against a 6-team field, including Iowa Western Community College, University of Nebraska at Omaha (host), Eastern Illinois University, University of Northern Iowa, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Bethune-Cookman University.
The UNI women's team is coming off a 12th-place finish at the Redbird Invitational. Leading the way for the Panthers was freshman Camille Wood, who shot a final score of 231 (+15) to finish in a five-way tie for 39th place, a strong start to her collegiate career. Next was Jane Petersen, finishing the invitational with an overall score of 239 (+23), which put her in 57th place. Greenlee Smock shot a total score of 242 (+26) and placed 63rd. Smock also had the only eagle for the Panthers this tournament in round 2. Addison Berg shot a score of 246 (+30) and finished in 68th place. To close out the group, Brinley Carlson shot a final score of 248 (+32) to place 70th.
The men's team is coming off a 15th-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational. The top result for the Panthers was Tanner Dinnebier, leading UNI for the first time this season with a four-over, 220 over three rounds. Finishing in 10th place, Dinnebier fired a one-under, 71 in round three to jump nine places in the final round of the tournament to finish top-10. His third round included seven of his 13 birdies at the Wildcat Invitational. Sam Wahman was second for the Panthers, finishing in 68th place. Wahman carded an eagle on the 16th hole, hole number two of his first round after teeing off on hole 15. He finished with three birdies and one eagle over three rounds, shooting a +24, 240. Not far behind Wahman was sophomore Anthony Galvin, in 70th place. Galvin shot a +25, 241 with his three-round low coming in a 76 in the first round of action. Galvin carded five birdies over the three-round tournament.
Drew Spooner finished with four birdies over the two days to card a +31, 247. Spooner shot a 78 in the opening round, his weekend-low. Freshman Lawsen Justesen rounded out the Panther team with a 78th-place finish after a weekend +32, 248. Justesen carded four birdies in the final round of action on Tuesday. He totaled eight birdies on the weekend.
