ST. LOUIS --- UNI redshirt senior Carter Morton has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Men's Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
The selection is Morton's first outdoor weekly conference honor of the season and second of the 2025-26 season after earning indoor honors in mid-December.
A Jefferson, Iowa native, Morton put together a championship performance last week at the 116th running of the historic Drake Relays in Des Moines. Morton finished first in the men's long jump championship division with a career-best mark of 25 feet, four inches (7.72 meters), the second-best outdoor mark in UNI history. His mark currently leads the MVC and is tied for 17th in the NCAA West Region this season. The win was also his second career Drake Relays title after winning the decathlon in 2023. Additionally, Morton also placed sixth in the men's high jump championship division with a six foot, ten and three-quarter inch leap (2.10m).
Morton also ranks in the top-ten in the MVC in the 110-meter hurdles, the high jump, pole vault and javelin, and also boasts the conference's top score in the decathlon, ranking ninth overall in Division I this year.
In addition to Morton, Indiana State swept the MVC's weekly women's awards with Rachel Mehringer earning track honors and Aliseonna Garnett earning field recognition. Evansville's Rafael Rodriguez meanwhile was named the MVC Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
Morton and the Panthers return to action this week as UNI competes at the Musco Twilight this Friday and Saturday in Iowa City.
