The UNI track and field team completes another strong showing at Mount Mercy University

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --- After a full day of competition on Friday, the UNI track and field team travels south on Saturday to compete in the Mustang Distance Carnival & Open hosted by Mount Mercy University
The Panther athletes collect five event wins, including multiple career bests and season bests in Cedar Rapids.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Breanna Hackman tops the podium after throwing a season-best in the discus with a toss of 43.47m. In the men's hammer throw, David Russell (193' 9"), Spencer Kessel (189' 7"), Justin Olson (183' 2"), and Tory Wash (176' 10") finished second through fifth, with Russell and Wash setting new career bests. Kileigh Lachacz (51.89), Brylie Lorence (49.44), and Laruen Kounkel (49.17) dominated the hammer throw as they all topped the podium. For the men's discus, a slew of Panthers topped the charts as Nolan Dempsey threw for 49.74, with Carson Lienau (49.39), David Russell (47.85), Justin Olson (45.11), and Spencer Kessel (43.91) finishing first through fifth.
Anna Van Kooten and Zach Van Wychen competed in the 400m for the Panthers as they placed fifth and fourth in times of 1:02.89 and 50.35. Darci Wiseman (14.71), Paige Paup (14.81), and Katy Hand (15.54) placed second, third, and fourth in the 100m hurdles finals. Josey Dunbar clocked a new career best in the 100m finals in 12.24, with Giada Grimes and Eryianna Singleton placing fourth and fifth, respectively, in 12.47 and 12.60. On the men's side, Carter Meyers tied for a fifth-place finish in 11.18. Kaylee Woolery clocked a new career best time in the 800m open, where she crossed the finish line in 2:15.76, while Liza Schaffer earned a fourth-place finish in 2:21.38. Ethan Olds and Chase Lauman earned second a fourth place finishes on the men's side, clocking times of 1:56.82 and 1:56.94.
Josee Simonson (2:16.22) and Clare Wright (2:16.36) round out the podium in the 800m elite, while Jake Bosch earned a fourth-place finish on the flip side in 1:56.04. Aleksys Gannon topped the podium in the 200m open, where she finished in 25.91. Makayla Crannell (26.17), Brynn Walters (26.46), and Kamryn Lande (26.51) followed behind closely as they placed third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Eden Moore and Maya Williams locked down second and third place finishes in the 200m elite as they crossed the finish line in 26.33 and 26.49.

The Panthers return to action next week at the Bryan Clay Invitational in California, April 16-17, as well as the Big Red Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska next Friday and Saturday.
