Panther softball’s Benesh, Enke named MVC Player and Freshman of the Week

ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) announced its weekly softball awards on Tuesday morning and Skylar Benesh was named MVC Player of the Week, while Ashlyn Enke was named MVC Freshman of the Week. This is the second MVC weekly honor in Benesh's career, and first Player of the Week honor, after receiving Freshman of the Week last season. For Enke, this is the first Valley weekly award of her young career.
Skylar Benesh batted .500 in UNI's 4-2 week with 10 hits and eight runs in 20 at-bats and three walks. Benesh had three home runs and a double including two home runs in an extra-inning victory against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Benesh drove in four runs with a 1.000 slugging percentage and was 3-3 in stolen base attempts.
Ashlyn Enke picked up her first two wins of the season last week with three appearances and a 2-0 record. Enke made one start and pitched 13.2 innings. The freshman struck out 16 batters as batters averaged .246 against her.
The Panthers continue game action South in Louisiana as they take on the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. CT. The matchup will be available to stream on ESPN+.
