Panther track and field wins seven events at Cyclone Twilight

AMES, Iowa --- With the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships set to begin in just eight days, the UNI Panthers used their final meet of the regular season as a strong tune-up, picking up seven event wins and recording 25 total career-best marks on Friday at the Cyclone Twilight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Reigning MVC Women's Field Athlete of the Week Katie Fare continued her impressive season in the shot put, capturing first place for Northern Iowa with a 15.79-meter toss, while Jorie Hanenburg followed in fourth (14.15m). Justice Miller, looking to repeat as the MVC's men's javelin champion next week, took first in the javelin with a winning throw of 61.29 meters, while Josie Moreland, who has broken through this season in the women's high jump, narrowly beat out teammate Rylie Todd on attempts, winning the women's high jump after clearing 1.73 meters.
Breanna Hackman put on a strong showing to win the women's discus with a 47.20-meter toss, while Brendan Safley added another gold to his collection by winning the men's pole vault with a 5.35-meter vault, with Carter Pheifer following in third (4.90m). Competing unattached, Carter Morton also captured the men's long jump title (7.44m), as Kaiden Quandahl took second (13.29m) and Soren Maricle (11.50m) with new career-best marks in the triple jump competitions.
On the track, the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Zack Butcher, Drake Hanson, Parker Kiewiet and Jake Bosch recorded the fifth-fastest time in team history with a 3:06.79 performance, also securing an NCAA regional qualifying mark.
In the men's 400-meter dash, Zach Fall clocked a new career-best time as he crossed the finish line first in 47.41, while UNI swept the top three positions on the podium in the men's 100 meters, with Deonte Dean (10.63), Luke Meyers (10.64) and Jerome Jessup (10.72) going 1-2-3. The Panthers also swept the top-five positions in the women's 400-meter hurdles, led by reigning MVC Women's Track Athlete of the Week Carlie Jo Fusco in first (59.32), followed by Joey Perry (1:00.10), Darci Wiseman (1:01.29) and Eden Moore (1:02.29), with Wiseman and Moore recording career-best times.

UNI returns to action next weekend, May 17-18 at the MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Carbondale, Illinois. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. CT next Saturday and 9 a.m. CT next Sunday at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex on the Southern Illinois University campus.
