
Miller, Fare, Manock top podium at Gibson Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. --- UNI track and field continued its doubleheader weekend in southern Indiana on Friday and Saturday, sending a delegation of Panthers to the Indiana State campus for the 2025 Gibson Invitational.
With just a month to go before the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Outdoor Championships, Northern Iowa captured event titles in the men's javelin and 110-meter hurdles, as well as the women's shot put invitational, with Panther athletes setting seven new season-best and 12 new career-best marks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Competition started off on Friday with Justice Miller setting a new career-best mark of 65.30 meters to win the men's javelin and inch closer towards the program record. Davis Brogan, meanwhile, placed fourth in the men's javelin with a career-best 54.98-meter throw.
Emma Joens competed in the women's open discus throw, throwing for 44.36 meters and a second place finish, while Breanna Hackman threw for the Panthers in the women's discus invitational with a 46.03-meter toss to earn sixth place. In the men's discus invitational, Carson Lienau (52.07m), Sebastian Swistak (50.20m), and David Russell (49.33m) placed third, fifth and sixth place respectively.
Katie Fare opened Saturday's action by winning the women's shot put invitational with a season-best 16.71-meter throw with Breanna Hackman following in ninth (13.42m). Hunter Manock meanwhile captured the men's 110-meter hurdles with a new career-best time of 140.07 seconds as Carter Accola followed in ninth (14.81).
Brendan Safley earned a third-place finish in the men's pole vault invitational after setting a new career-best mark of 5.38 meters, the fifth-highest height ever cleared in outdoor team history with Carter Pheifer earning eighth (4.90m) in the open pole vaulting competition. In the women's long jump, Josey Dunbar took eighth place (5.37m) in the women's long jump with Rylie Todd leaping for a season-best 1.74 meters to finish eight in the women's high jump, as Kaiden Quandahl set a new career-best mark of 13.06 meters to finish ninth in the men's triple jump.
Spencer Kessel (17.84m), Sebastian Swistak (17.57m), David Russell (17.42m) and Carson Lienau (17.21m) all finished third through sixth respectively in the men's shot put invitational, as Russell (51.74m) and Lienau (49.92m) also placed third and seventh in the men's open hammer throw. Nathan Wilde (59.16m) tied his career-best mark to finish third in the men's invitational hammer throw with Kessel taking fifth (56.89m), while Fare took third in the women's hammer invitational (55.31m).
Back on the track, Paige Kisley ran the 100-meter hurdles for the Panthers in 14.01 seconds to finish fifth in the event, as Jerome Jessup (11.07) and Eva Van De Mortel (12.29) both led the way for UNI in the ran the 100-meter dashes with 12th and 13th place finishes respectively. Liza Schaffer (4:37.16) and Kaylin Lacher (4:37.85) set season and career-best times in the 1,500 meters respectively as they placed sixth and ninth, while Derek Woods clocked a 1:53.81 in the men's 800-meter run.
In the 400 meters, Maya Williams set a new career-best running the event in 56.50 seconds to take seventh with Jersey Jones right behind in eighth place in 56.53 seconds. Zach Fall meanwhile placed fifth in the men's 400-meter dash in 48.10 seconds. Eden Moore ran a 1:03.41 to finish sixth in the women's 400-meter hurdles, as Bill Mukhtar (55.04) and Ashton Hogrefe (55.12) placed seventh and eight with career and season-best time respectively in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Luke Meyers and Manock rounded out the afternoon in the 200 meters with Meyers running a season-best 21.56 second to take sixth and Manock placing 11th in a career-best 21.80 seconds.
