Panther men tabbed first in MVC outdoor track and field preseason poll

UNI men narrowly picked as preseason favorites to win outdoor title. Panther women picked third.
ST. LOUIS --- The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) on Thursday afternoon announced the results of its outdoor track and field preseason poll ahead of the start of the 2025 season.
Voted on by the league's coaches, UNI was tabbed to finish first in the men's preseason poll with 94 points and six first-place votes, while the Panther women were picked third with 115 points. Indiana State was selected as the preseason favorite to capture women's team championships.
The strong preseason poll results come after the Panther men captured the MVC indoor team title last month in Chicago with the women finishing in third. UNI won a combined seven indoor event titles at the conference championships, with heptathlete Carter Morton going on to place fifth at the NCAA Indoor Championships to earn First Team All-American honors.
Northern Iowa placed third in the men's standings at last season's outdoor conference championships in Terre Haute, Indiana, with Justice Miller winning the lone individual title for the Panthers in the javelin throw. The UNI women finished in third last season at the MVC Outdoor Championships.
The outdoor season will get underway for the Panthers beginning this afternoon at the two-day WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, as well as the Central Invitational on Friday in Pella, Iowa.
