Panther track and field returns to Ames for Iowa State Classic

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI track and field team will make its second trip to Ames and the Lied Recreation Athletic Center this indoor season on Saturday for the Iowa State Classic.
Competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CT and continue throughout the day. Live results can be followed HERE.
Northern Iowa heads to Ames after a strong weekend competing at both the Wartburg Indoor Select and Kansas State's DeLoss Dodds Invitational last weekend, winning seven combined events with multiple personal-best marks set, including one school record.
Brendan Safley, the reigning Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Male Field Athlete of the Week, broke Kansas State's indoor facility record in the pole vault in clearing a height of 5.43 meters, setting a new personal record to rank second all-time in school history and 19th in Division I this season. Katie Fare won the women's shot put, throwing a distance of 16.96 meters for a new facility and meet record, while also finishing first in the weight throw with a toss of 18.14 meters. Spencer Kessel (17.92m) and Carson Lineau (17.25m) earned themselves second and third place finishes in the men's weight throw.
Chase Lauman set a new school record by winning the men's 1,000-meter run in 2:22.72, as Emma Hoins took home the gold in the women's mile in a time of 4:51.38 with Melody Ochana earning fourth place (4:59.94). In the men's mile, Chase Lauman collected a third place finish crossing the finish line at 4:04.34.
UNI crowned five champions last year at the Iowa State Classic.
