UNI Women’s Golf Goes 1-2 in Florida to start Spring Season

CLERMONT, Fla. --- UNI women's golf kicked off the spring portion of its 2024-25 schedule on Tuesday afternoon down south in the Sunshine State at the Rust Buster Match Play in Orlando, Florida.
In round 1 of match play the Panthers fell to Ball State with a final score of 4.5-1.5 in favor of the Cardinals. Anna Nacos recorded UNI's only full point of the round in a 2&1 match against Ball State's Sophie Korthujis. The senior finished with 79 strokes through 17 holes (+10) to take home the victory. Anna Jensen finished all 18 holes and came out tied with The Cardinals' JJ Gregston after a +2 74 which led all Panther players in round one. Victoria Hualde was +7 (60) through 13 holes when she was closed out 6&5 against Ball State's Sarah Gallager while Rylie Driskell fell 5&4 to Jenna Estravillo as she was +5 (61) through 14. Freshman Isabella Pettersen was one of the two Panthers to finish all 18 against Ball State as she carded an 80 (+8) but fell on hole 18 and lost the match one down. McKenna Mallow finished 16 holes and was closed out 3&2 after shooting a +6 71.
The Panthers took on the Bulldogs of Drake in round two which ended in favor of Drake by a 3.5-2.5 final. Anna Jensen came out firing with a 6&5 closeout of Drake's Amber Henson after going -2 through 13 holes to take the point. McKenna Mallow contributed the other full point for UNI with a 2&1 match against Rylee Heryford after going +4 through 17 holes. Anna Nacos split her match with Alexis Reyes after a +5 77 which saw Nacos card a birdie on 18 to take home a tie in the match. Isabella Pettersen finished two down while Victoria Hualde and Rylie Driskell finished five and six down respectively.
UNI closed out the match play tournament with a 5-1 victory over Western Illinois in round three. Anna Nacos closed out Mia Scrimgeour of Western Illinois 5&3 while Anna Jensen and McKenna Mallow both finished 3&2in their matchups against the Leathernecks while a 3&1 victory for Victoria Hualde was highlighted by the first hole-in-one of the season for the Panthers on a 145-yard par three. Isabella Pettersen was two up on Abby Hunter after birdieing her 18th hole to take the two-up victory. Rylie Driskell fell in a close matchup which ended with Olivia McCrystal of Western Illinois one up after 18.
