UNI cross country: Hoins named MVC Runner of the Week

ST. LOUIS --- UNI senior Emma Hoins has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.

A Waverly, Iowa native, Hoins is the first Panther athlete to receive the honor since Hannah Truniger in October 2016. The selection comes after Hoins led the UNI women with a tenth-place individual finish in the five-kilometer race at last Friday's Cyclone Preview in Ames with a time of 17:23. A career-best time in the 5K, she also posted the third-fastest time in the event in program history.

Hoins and the Panthers will return to action on Friday, Sept. 13 when they head to the Redbird Invite at D.A. Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Illinois. Competition is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. CT.
