UNI tennis falls short in road duals at UIC, Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. --- A shorthanded UNI tennis team came up short in its final two road duals of the 2023-24 season over the weekend, dropping a 7-0 matchup at UIC on Saturday and a 6-1 contest on Sunday in northwest Indiana.
Friday's action in Chicago against the Flames saw Darta Dalecka take the first set from her challenger Tamara Malazonia in the second singles matchup before falling in three sets (2-6, 7-5, 10-7). Issa Sullivan would also challenge her opponent Camille Belberka in the fifth singles match with a competitive two-set battle, falling 6-3, 6-2.
Traveling just 56 miles east to the Valpo Tennis Complex on Sunday, the Panthers would grab their lone team point courtesy of Andrijana Brkic's top singles victory over Valparaiso's Moira Silva, rallying after dropping the first set to win in three frames (2-6, 6-4, 10-4). Dalecka would push Olivia Czerwonka in the opening frame of her singles match, but ultimately came up short in a 7-6, 6-0 loss, while Kanyanut Sudsaard rallied late in the second set, but fell to Mia Bertino in the third singles matchup (6-1, 6-4).
UP NEXT
The Panthers return home next week to kick off a three-meet homestand to conclude the regular season, hosting the Illinois State Redbirds at 1 p.m. CT on April 13, and the Bradley Braves on April 14 at 10 a.m. CT.
