Panthers drop road match to Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. — The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team fell on the road Sunday morning, dropping a 5-2 decision to Murray State.
The Racers secured the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At the No. 1 position, Lucia Schuknecht and Andrea Noa Galin pushed their opponents to a tight tiebreak, but ultimately fell 7-6. Murray State also picked up wins at No. 2 (6-1) and No. 3 (6-2) to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
In singles competition, UNI earned two points behind strong individual performances from Abbie Peterson and Kayla Santosa.
Peterson delivered a resilient comeback at No. 4 singles after dropping the opening set 3-6. She responded with a 6-3 second set before securing the match in a 10-5 super tiebreak. Santosa followed a similar path at No. 5, battling through a three-set contest to earn a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 victory.
Murray State, however, controlled the remaining singles matches to clinch the team victory. The Racers picked up straight-set wins at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6 positions.

The Panthers will return home to face the Drake Bulldogs at the Black Hawk Tennis Center on April 4 at 1 p.m. CT.
