
Panthers drop 100 in victory over Northern Illinois

UNI men’s basketball recorded its first 100-point game of the season in a 101-57 victory over Northern Illinois.
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI men's basketball hosted the Huskies of Northern Illinois inside the McLeod Center on Saturday evening. The Panthers came out hot and didn't take their foot off the gas as they cruised to a 101-57 victory over Northern Illinois.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers came out hot on their home floor with a 19-3 run to open the matchup. NIU recorded its first field goal of the game halfway through the first half for its 10th point of the contest. The Panthers continued to dominate in all phases of the game and a late, 7-1 run for UNI gave the Panthers a 56-28 lead heading into the halftime break. The Panthers shot 60% (18-for-30) from the field in the first half and 53.3% (8-for-15) from beyond the arc. Ben Schwieger was a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor in the first half with 15 points and 3-of-3 from three-point range.
The Panthers opened the second half with eight points which turned into a 17-3 run for UNI to extend the Panther lead to 42 early in the second half. The Huskies benefitted from an eight-point run but the Panther lead was insurmountable down the stretch. In the second half, the Panthers shot 64% (16-for-25) from the floor and 44.4% (4-for-9) from beyond the three-point line.
Jacob Hutson led the Panthers with 22 points. He added four rebounds, three assists, and a block to his total. Ben Schwieger finished with a season-high 20 points and eight rebounds. Tytan Anderson and Trey Campbell also finished in double-figures with 15 and 13 points respectively.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- UNI extended its all-time series lead over NIU to 17-8 including all six of the last six meetings.
- UNI is 90-12 (.882) all-time under head coach Ben Jacobson when scoring 80+ points. All five of UNI's victories this season have come when the Panthers score over 80 points.
- Guard Charlie Miller recorded a career-high six points against the Huskies.
