Friday's matchup marks the first meeting between the Panthers and Mavericks since the 1992-93 season, and will be Omaha's first trip to Cedar Falls to take on UNI in 45 years. Northern Iowa leads the all-time series by a 16-10 margin.
UNI looks to continue to build momentum following a pair of impressive performances last week, including a 27-point road victory at UIC in its Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) opener on Dec. 4, and a dominant 101-57 rout of Northern Illinois last Saturday at home. The Panthers' blowout victory over the Huskies was the program's second-largest all-time against a Division I opponent and the 41st game in team history with over 100 points scored.
Jacob Hutson tied his season-high with 22 points in Saturday's win against NIU, while Ben Schwieger set a new high water mark with 20 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Tytan Anderson scored 15 points with seven boards as Trey Campbell notched 13 points and six rebounds. Freshman Will Hornseth contributed with nine points and six boards off the bench. UNI collectively shot a season-high 61.8% from the field, matched a season-best with 12 made three pointers and outrebounded the Huskies by a 46-22 margin.
Through nine games, the Panthers boast the nation's second-high field goal shooting percentage at 51.9%, while also ranking 13th in three-point shooting (40.1%).
Anderson leads UNI with 13.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game on 56.2% shooting, while Hutson has notched 11.9 points and 4.2 rebounds a game. Schwieger has posted 10.6 in his first season as a Panther, with Campbell leading UNI with 27 assists on the season, plus nine points a game.
SCOUTING OMAHA
The Mavericks begin a two-game road swing through Iowa when they visit Cedar Falls on Friday ahead of a matchup with No. 3 Iowa State on Sunday in Ames.
Led by third-year head coach Chris Crutchfield, Omaha was picked to finish eighth out of nine teams in the Summit League's preseason poll. Senior forward Marquel Sutton was also named Second Team Preseason All-Conference.
The Mavericks boast the Summit League's fourth-best three-point shooting offense with 34.5% of shots made, while also ranking third in the conference in defensive rebounds per game (25.2) and fastbreak points (10.4).
Sutton leads Omaha with 17.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, while also leading the Summit League in shot attempts (151). Tony Osburn has posted 11.8 points, with Lance Waddles notching 9.1 points per contest.
