Panthers begin the final four-match stretch of the MVC schedule in Carbondale this weekend against another top-five league opponent

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI soccer team will make the trip south to Carbondale, Illinois this Sunday to take on the Salukis of Southern Illinois in Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) schedule on Sunday
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT at the Lew Hartzog Complex. While the match will not be livestreamed, fans can follow the match on live statsHERE. Â
This will be just the fifth all-time meeting between Northern Iowa and SIU on the pitch with UNI holding a 3-0-1 lead in the series since the Salukis began their program in 2020. UNI was victorious last time out against SIU in a 3-0 shutout in Cedar Falls last season.
The Panthers have given up just one goal in their last four matches coming off consecutive draws, including a scoreless tie at Indiana State last Sunday, and a 1-1 tie last on Thursday at home vs. Belmont. UNI narrowly outshot the Bruins 9-8 in the match with Marissa Gross providing the Panthers' their lone goal off a pass from Olivia Knoepfle. Thursday's tie marked the first time UNI recorded consecutive ties since rattling off five straight ties in 2022.
Northern Iowa has scored 30 goals this season, the third-highest single-season total in team history and currently the most in the MVC this year.. Additionally, with 17 assists, this year's team is now tied for fifth place in single-season assists in school history.Â

SCOUTING THE SALUKISÂ
Southern Illinois hosts UNI following a 2-0 victory over Valparaiso this past Sunday. After ending last season with a 1-1-5 overall record, the Salukis have shown improvement this year, easily surpassing their win total with five additional wins from 2023.
Under the guidance of second year head coach Graeme Orr, SIU aims to keep the momentum rolling from their previous win with the support of freshmen Sophia Schlicklin, who has scored four of the Salukis' 15 goals this season. Ashlyn Henrie has attempted 19 total shots this season contributing to the team's overall tally of 133 shots this season. In goal, Fabiana Solano leads the team with 53 saves and boasts a .855 save percentage.
