Hanson, Knoche top career marks at Kip Janvrin Open

Panther duo notches top-eight times in men's 800-meter run as UNI wins three events at Simpson College.
INDIANOLA, Iowa — UNI track and field crowned three champions with some of the top times and results in program history recorded on Thursday and Friday as the Panthers took to the track at Simpson College's Bill Buxton Stadium for the Kip Janvrin Open.
Drake Hanson and Chase Knoche etched their names in the UNI record book as Hanson picked up his first individual victory of the outdoor season with the third-fastest time in program history of 1:48.19. Knoche finished in third place with the eighth-best time by a Panther at 1:48.69.
Jack Sumners added to the action packed weekend in Thursday's 110-meter hurdles, setting a new career-best time of 13.87 seconds to win gold in the event for the third time this outdoor season. Sumners' performance cracks UNI's top-five with the fifth fastest mark in school history.
Jacob Baier topped the podium in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 57.55 meters, securing the first win of his collegiate career. Justin Olson, competing as an unattached athlete placed fifth (50.81m). Mari Shavers, meanwhile, topped the women's hammer throw field with a career-best toss of 59.56 meters, improving her mark to the fourth-best in school history.
Deonte Dean claimed second place in the men's 100-meters with a time of 10.53, while Rylan Santi notched the sixth-best time in the women's 100-meter dash in school history with an 11.80 mark on Friday en route to a fourth place finish. Madelyn Sanda also recorded a personal-best in a fifth place finish in the women's 100-meters (11.91 seconds), while Libby Wedewer (11.97) took sixth and Jill Bennett finished seventh (11.99). Hurdler Paige Kisley clocked a career-best time in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a 14.33 and an eighth place finish.
In the women's 400 meter dash, Auriona Kimbrough finished in third place (57.02) with Erin Kerkhoff placing fourth (57.09). In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Bill Mukhtar placed sixth in 54.78 seconds, while Isaac Vaske clocked a new career-best time of 55.35 to take seventh place.
Clocking a 24.81 in the women's 200-meter dash, Eden Barrett led the Panthers to a seventh place finish, as Paige Holub recorded career-bests in the 800-meter run (2:14.40) and the mile run (4:37.68), placing fifth in both events.
In the field, Carson Lienau and Sebastian Swistak went second and third respectively in the men's shot put, with Lienau record a best toss of 15.86 meters. Swistak also competed in the men's discus throw, placing second with a 48.60-meter toss. Morgan Johnk cleared 1.55 meters in the women's high jump to secure fourth place, with Ethan Peters taking sixth (1.85 meters) in the men's competition. Allison Flanscha closed out the day for UNI taking sixth in the women's discus throw (40.09 meters).
