UNI tennis: Brkic wins marathon third singles set as Panthers fall to UIC, 6-1

WATERLOO, Iowa --- UNI tennis welcomed the Flames of UIC to the Black Hawk Tennis Center on Sunday morning, but would fall short of its third home dual win of the season, falling by a score of 6-1 in a fleury of competitive matches.
Andrijana Brkic and Kim Zizek paced the Panthers with their lone doubles win in a 6-2 victory over UIC's Tamara Malazonia/Zara Ryan. Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso dropped their match to Agnes Gustafsson/Natalia Nikolopoulou, 6-4, while Thaissa Moreira and Issa Sullivan fell to Cora-Lynn von Dungern/Paula Rodriguez, 6-2.
In singles competition, Brkic came out on the winning side of a three-set battle with Gustaffson taking the first set 6-2 and dropping the second 7-6 on a tiebreak. Going back-and-forth, Brkic would squeak out the win with a 12-10 victory in the decisive third frame. It would be UNI's lone singles win and team point as Moreria dropped a three-set showdown to Gregoris, 6-0, 4-6, 10-8. Zizek fell to von Dungern in three sets, while Cardoso and Kanyanut Sudsaard fell in straight sets.
UP NEXT
The Panthers hit the road for a pair of duals next Saturday at Bradley at 1 p.m. CT, followed by a matchup with Illinois State in Normal at 11:30 a.m. CT.Â
