WATERLOO, Iowa — UNI tennis came up short in its home opener on Friday afternoon as the Panthers fell to the University of Missouri-Kansas City Roos by a score of 5-2 at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.

The Panthers were able to secure the doubles point as Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso came out on top against Michela Xibilia and Laura Munoz-Baroja in a 6-1 match. Andrijana Brkic and Kim Zizek also recorded a 6-1 victory in doubles over Catherine Chrobak and Eva Kresovic.

Brkic grabbed UNI's lone victory in singles play as she secured a straight sets win over Laura Munoz-Baroja, 6-2, 6-3. Dalecka dropped a narrow first set to Xibila 7-6 before falling 6-4 in the second set, while Cardoso challenged Chrobak in the second frame in a 6-3, 7-6 loss.

Zizek dropped her first match of the season 6-4, 7-5 to Joanna Cardona, as Issa Sullivan fell to Tuana Tinaztepe, 6-4, 7-6. Thaissa Moreira battled back from a 6-3 first set loss against Katie Miley for a 6-3 win in the second frame, but fell short in the decisive third set 7-5.
