Panther tennis: Dalecka, Sudsaard place at MVC Individual Championships

UNI scheduled to close out the fall season starting Thursday at the ITA Regional Championships in Kansas
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — UNI tennis picked up a pair of top-five finishes over the weekend in singles competition as the Panthers competed at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Individual Championships at Missouri State's Cooper Tennis Complex.
Darta Dalecka took home fifth place in the Flight 2 singles bracket, bouncing back after a first-round loss to Drake's Mille Haagensen (6-2, 6-7, 6-2). Dalecka would win her final three matches in the consolation side of the brackets, beginning with a three-set battle with Bradley's Anna Belogliadova (6-7, 7-4, 10-5), followed by a bye into the fifth place match. Murray State's Varvara Alexeyeva would challenge Dalecka, but the Panther junior would rally strong after a second-set loss to take the match, 6-4, 5-7, 10-1. Dalecka improves to 6-4 in singles this season.
Kanyanut Sudsaard, playing in the Flight 5 bracket, grabbed an opening round victory over UIC's Anais Brion (6-2, 2-6, 7-6) before dropping her final two matches of the weekend to take fourth place.
In doubles, Dalecka and her partner Lorena Cardoso grabbed an 8-5 first-round win in the top flight against Flaquer Fueste/Houston (Missouri State), but would fall to Stephani/Parkins-Godwin of Drake in the next round (8-6).
Lasya Mylavarapu and Kim Zizek dropped their Flight 2 doubles opener to Belmont's Gjinaj/Sokolvic (8-4), while Sudsaard and Issa Sullivan fell to Sanz/Rodrigo (Illinois State), 8-3 in Flight 3 doubles play.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will close out the fall season at the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Kansas University in Lawrence, Oct. 12-15. Qualifying matches and draws have yet to be announced.
