Panther tennis concludes fall season at ITA Regional Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. — UNI tennis wrapped up the fall portion of its 2023-24 schedule late last week, competing in both singles and doubles matches at the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Kansas University.
In singles competition, Darta Dalecka, the Panthers' automatic qualifier for the tournament, battled Kyota Kubo of Kansas in a hotly-contested three-set match, coming up short (6-4, 4-6, 6-3). Dalecka would follow up her opening round loss with a consolation bracket win over Arkansas' Katie Ferguson (6-4, 4-6, 12-10), before falling to Aliksandra Lebdeva of Oral Roberts (5-7, 6-3, 6-3).
Issa Sullivan fell to Elif Gunal of Missouri State in straight sets in the qualifying round (6-1, 6-1), while Lasya Mylavarapu dropped her lone singles match to Kansas State's Maria Santos (6-2, 6-0). Kim Zizek would force her match against Sorcha Caves of South Dakota to a tiebreaker in the second set, but would come up short in a two-set loss (6-2, 7-6)
In doubles, Sullivan and Mylavarapu challenged the Arkansas State duo of Rebecca Brody and Yasmine Humbert, but came up three games short in an 8-5 loss. Dalecka and Zizek would drop their lone doubles match of the tournament in an 8-2 loss to Jocelyn Massey and Kyoka Kubo (Kansas).
