Panthers fall to Missouri State, Creighton in two-day event

OMAHA, Neb. — The UNI tennis team wrapped up their final day of play at Koch Tennis Center on Saturday against Omaha, Creighton and Missouri State in dual meet action.

DAY 2
The day started off with the doubles matchup of Creighton and UNI with the duo pairing of Thaissa Moreira and Lasya Mylavarapu defeating Creighton's Jeanne Gearity and Annika Elvestrom, 6-2. Andrijana Brkic and Issa Sullivan fell short to Valerie Negin and Ana Paula, 7-6, along with the sophomore duo of Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso, coming up short to Malvika Shukla and Leanne Kendall 6-3.

Brkic defeated Diana Cabera of Missouri State in the first match of singles play against the Bears, 7-5, 6-3. Following her lead were wins from both Daleka, who beat her opponent Juliette Robinson (6-1, 6-0) and Sullivan taking the victory against Amy Henning (4-6, 6-4, 10-5). Cardoso fell to Sandra Lukacova (7-5, 6-4). Mylavarapu also came up short to Silva Avakian (6-3, 6-1) along with Thaissa Moreira losing her match against Alyson Piskulic (6-4, 6-3).

Closing out the weekend against Omaha were singles wins from Brkic defeating Keegan VanPelt (6-0, 6-0), Cardoso pulling out a win against Addison Miller (6-4, 6-3) and Moreia coming out on top against Lillian Tiemeyer (6-1, 6-4). Delecka was defeated by Zoe Adkins (6-4, 7-5) along with Sullivan falling short to Brooke Covington (6-1, 6-4).

DAY 1
Darta Daleka and Lorena Cardosa, who carried a 5-4 doubles record into this weekend's action, dropped their first two matches of the day, falling 7-6 against Missouri State's Alyson Piskulik and Diana Cabrera, and 6-3 to Omaha's Jessica Aragon and Ines Absison.

The duo of Andrijana Brkic and Issa Sullivan also dropped a pair of doubles matches on Friday, coming up short against Juliette Robinson and Sandra Lukacova of Missouri State, and 6-4 to Zoe Adkins and Keegan VanPelt of Omaha.

Thaissa Moreira and Lasya Mylavarapu recorded UNI's lone victory in doubles play during the first day of competition, defeating the Bears' Amy Henning and Silvia Avakian 6-2. Moreina and Brkic would fall short 6-4 in their second match of the afternoon against the Mavericks' Brooke Covington and Summer Shannon.

In singles competition against Creighton, Mylavarapu would pick up UNI's only victory, sweeping Allison Wilcox in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6).

UP NEXT
The Panthers will conclude the fall portion of the schedule next weekend in Springfield, Mo. at the MVC Individual Conference Tournament, hosted by Missouri State, Oct. 7-9.
