UNI Soccer vs. Omaha
After taking down both Grand View and South Dakota by a 2-1 margin, the Panthers hope to do the same against another Summit League team in the Mavericks. In 2021 UNI began its season against Omaha, dropping a 1-0 decision at Caniglia Field. With their recent success at home, the Panthers will try for another revenge game victory.
THE PANTHERS:
- With two wins under their belt, the Panthers lead the Missouri Valley in multiple categories. UNI has the lone penalty kick in the MVC along with the most goals, points, and win-loss-tied percentage.Â
- Junior forward Lauren Heinsch was named the first MVC Offensive Player of the Week by league staff on Tuesday morning. Heinsch leads the Panthers on offense with two goals, four points, and six shots. It is also the first time since 2018 that UNI soccer has been recognized with an Offensive Player of the Week nomination.Â
- Head Coach Bruce Erickson is currently tied for the program record of most wins by a Head Coach at 40. He is tied with former HC James Price and will take sole possession of the record with the Panthers next win.
- Over the week three Panthers scored their first collegiate point. Freshman Caroline Hazen and Sydney Burskey and sophomore Olivia Knoepfle recorded either a goal or an assist in the first two games of the season.Â
THE MAVERICKS:
- Omaha has opened the season with a 1-1 split, dropping their first home game to Oklahoma State and winning on the road against Lindenwood. Both games have been decided by a one goal margin.Â
-Â The Mavericks were tabbed third in the Summit League Preseason Poll for the second straight season. Along with placing third, forward Sophia Green and midfielder Grace Ostergaard were named Preseason Players to Watch.
- In 2021Omaha posted a 9-8-2 record. The nine wins were the most wins in a single-season since the Mavericks joined Division I in the 2010 season.
- The Mavericks roster is dominated by freshman and junior players in 2022. Between 27 players, all but a fifth of the team is either in the first or third season. Omaha has no senior players on its roster for the 2022 season.Â
