CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Anna Jensen of UNI's women's golf earned the Panthers' first Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honors with her performance at the Indiana State Invitational.Â
Â
Earlier this week, four MVC women's teams (Evansville, Indiana State, UNI, Valparaiso) competed at the Indiana State Invitational. They played at the par-72, 6041-yard Country Club of Terre Haute in Terre Haute, Indiana. Â
Â
Sophomore Anna Jensen (Dubuque, Iowa) led the UNI women's golf team with a tie for second place. Jensen was just one stroke away from the champion. Jensen carded a 78 and 73 for a 151 in the two-round tournament. She jumped from being tied in 10th place after the first round to taking silver.Â
Â
It is Jensen's highest finish in her college career. Green Bay took top honors in the team and individual standings. The Phoenix scored a 307 on Monday to finish with a 608. Isabella Maleki of Green Bay was the tournament medalist.
MEN'S GOLF
Loyola graduate student Devin Johnson (Geneva, Ill.) finished just two strokes off the individual lead as the Ramblers earned a share of seventh place at the Redhawk Invitational in University Place, Washington. After seeing the first two rounds of the event washed away due to inclement weather, Johnson carded an even-par 71 during final-round play at historic Chambers Bay Golf Course, birdying three of his last four holes. The Geneva, Illinois, native enters the final event of Loyola's regular season slate with a team-low 72.7 stroke average across 20 rounds of play.Â
