UNI women's golf: Bermel in 2nd, team in 8th at MVC Championships after day 2

ST. LOUIS - Hannah Bermel finished the second round of the Women's Golf MVC Championships one stroke behind the leader in a tie for second place.Â
The UNI women's golf team slipped to eighth place after the second day of the conference championships at the Greenbriar Hills Country Club.
Bermel carded a 73 and 76 (149) with six birdies, the second most of anyone in the field. Bermel entered the championships ranked ninth in the league.Â
Bermel is on track for her highest finish at the MVC Championships. She tied for fourth in 2021. She tied for fifth in 2019 and tied for sixth in 2018. The 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.Â
Allison Nuss moved up five places to join Bermel in the top 20. She carded a 79 and 80 (159) to finish the second day in a tie for 20th.Â
Madison Humke, Anna Jensen and Lily Bredemeier are packed up at 41st, 44th and 45th, respectively. Humke carded a 78 and 90 (168). Jensen carded a 79 and 93 (172), and Bredemeier moved up three places, shooting a 92 and 84 (176).Â
Illinois State holds the 36-hole lead at the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship after shooting a second-round team score of 295 to take a seven-stroke lead into tomorrow's final round. The championship is being played at the par-71, 5,830-yard Greenbriar Hills Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri.
Monday featured windy (20 mph wind gusts) conditions and cold temperatures. The championship will conclude Tuesday with 18 holes beginning with tee times at 9 a.m. CT (moved back one hour from the originally scheduled time due to potential frost).Â
