Six Panthers still alive in 2022 NCAA Championships, team ends first day in 6th place

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - UNI wrestling's Parker Keckeisen remains in contention for an NCAA Division I Wrestling title at 184 pounds, and the team sits in sixth place after the first day of competition.Â
Parker Keckeisen, UNI's only returning All-American, is on a 16-match win streak that included six consecutive wins by major decision that came to an end in the second session of today's tournament.Â
Five more Panthers are alive in consolations in contention for third place.Â
Lance Runyon opened his first NCAA appearance with a fall over the wrestler who defeated him at the Big 12 Championships for the bronze at 165 pounds.Â
Kyle Biscoglia tacked on a second fall, and Colin Realbuto grabbed a third fall in the second session.Â
UNI rolled through its first four matches before suffering its first loss. Derek Holschlag and Tyrell Gordon won their pigtail matches to face the No. 1 seeds in their second matches before being bumped to consolations and eventually from the tournament in their next matches.Â
Brody Teske joins Biscoglia, Realbuto, Yant and Runyon on the backside. UNI is looking for its first top-10 finish since 1992. The Panthers have placed in the top 15 twice under head coach Doug Schwab.Â
