Taylor Hogan and Amber Finke recognized at 2022 MVC Championship

IOWA CITY, IA - The Northern Iowa Swim and Dive team wraps up their 2021-22 season with six athletes in honorable mention, Amber Finke, the recipient of the Elite 17 Award, Taylor Hogan receiving Diver of the Year and Diving Coach Bethany Hovland who received the Diving Coach of the Year Award. The Panthers finished fifth among all competitors scoring a total of 431.5 points.Â
Hogan earned the Championship title in the 3-meter diving finals after scoring 277.50 points. She entered the finals as a number three seed and moved to the lead with a 54.00 on a Back 2 ½ Pike. Hogan claimed the first diving title since 2011 and the schools first on 3-meter.
Lily Ernst swam the 200 Fly A-Finals race in 2:02.97 placing fifth and shattering her previous school record of 2:03.50. Following Ernst in the 200 Fly was Sydney Hall, Caitlin Dassow, and Rachelle Houlette, all of who competed in the B-Finals.Â
Adding to her third-place finish and All-MVC honor in the 100 backstroke, Amber Finke represented the Panthers in the A-Final of the 200 backstroke and finished third overall on the final day of the Championships. Joining Finke was Abby McCorkle and Payton Hall in the B-Final and Scout Bergwall in the C-Final. Hall tied her personal best swim with a 2:08.13 swim and finished twelfth.
Three Panthers competed in the 1650 freestyle including Olivia Chambers who raced a personal best, 17:24.98, and Abbie Bangs who also swam a personal best, 17:24.49. Sarah Walpole completed the scoring trio and finished 15th with a time of 17:39.12.Â
Leading the Panthers in the 100 Free was freshman, Faith Larsen, who placed 12th with a time of 51.72. Following Larsen was Natalia Verastegui who earned a spot on the All-Time Top Ten list with a run of 52.21 and Clare Christensen and Waren Graeve who swam personal bests in the preliminary races.Â
Four Panthers all broke the top 20 in the 200 Breaststroke. Meghan Pallet took 10th, Mia Savicevic placed 12th, Ema Lavigne landed in 15th and Sydney Stemper took 20th. Finishing out the meet was the 400 Freestyle Relay where the Panthers team placed fifth with a time of 3:25.64. Finke, Natalia Verastegui, Abbie Bangs, and Larsen raced on the Panther Relay team for the final time this season.Â
As the Panthers wrap up their 2021-22 season, Hogan will continue on to compete at the NCAA Diving Zones in Madison, Wisconsin between March 7-9 at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center.Â
