UNI tennis opens home season with St. Thomas, SIUE

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The UNI women's tennis team will play its first home meets this weekend at Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo.Â
The first meet is set for 3:30 p.m. Feb. 18 against St. Thomas University. The teams last met in the 2019-2020 season, and the Panthers swept the Tommies, 7-0. St. Thomas just recently moved to Division I.Â
UNI won all the singles matches and secured the doubles point, also winning all the doubles matches. St Thomas is 0-4 this season.
The Panthers will be back in action at 10 a.m. Sunday when they host Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville. UNI fell to SIUE in the 2020-21 season. The Panthers got the doubles point with wins on the No. 1 spot with Olivia Fain and Emma Carr, and on the No. 3 spot, with Issa Sullivan and Madeline Doherty.Â
The Cougars are 6-0 this season, including a win over Valparaiso, a member of the Missouri Valley Conference.
St. Thomas and SIUE are set to play against each other, on Saturday, at 11 a.m.
UNI is currently 0-4 in this season, with losses against Creighton, UNO, Minnesota and North Dakota.
UNI will also stay home next weekend, hosting Northern Illinois University 1 p.m. Feb. 26 and Grinnell college on Sunday at 11 a.m.
