Panther men's basketball rolls to victory over Wartburg in season opener

Five score in double-figures in 105-49 rout of the Knights. UNI begins a four-game road trip beginning Friday night.
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- Five Panthers made their collegiate debuts on Monday night as UNI men's basketball rolled to a commanding season opening win in a 105-49 victory over the Wartburg Knights at the McLeod Center. UNI improves to 11-6 in the first game of the season under head coach Ben Jacobson.
The Panthers led from start to finish and shot 59.7% from the field, hitting 40-of-67 shot attempts, while also shooting 40.6% from beyond the arc with 13 made three-point field goals. A strong presence in the paint, plus 27 points of 22 Wartburg turnovers helped give the Panthers a fast start and cruise to victory, its seventh consecutive over the Knights and fifth Ben Jacobson.
Bowen Born led the night with a game-high 19 points, shooting 63.6% from the floor, while Landon Wolf recorded 18 points in the first game of his career with a game-leading 4 made three-point shots.Nate Heise tallied 14 points, while Trey Campbell and Drew Daniel scored 11 points each.
Tytan Anderson set a new career-high with 12 rebounds in the Panther win, while also recording a pair of steals and a career-best 2 blocked shots, as Ege Peksari led UNI with 4 assists.

- The Panthers improves to 77-9 when scoring 80 or more points in a game under Ben Jacobson.
- UNI's victory on Tuesday marked the first time since 1989-90 when the Panthers recorded 100+ points in consecutive regular season games (against Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State). The Panthers' regular season finale against Loyola-Chicago last February saw UNI score 102 points in a double overtime win.
