HIGH SCHOOL: Duax played three seasons with Dubuque Hempstead High School and competed under coach Curt Deutsch. He recorded 1,209 points, 424 rebounds, 195 assists, 139 steals, and 47 blocks for the Mustangs while starting all 63 appearances. Duax finished his prep career as the two-time Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division Player of the Year and a two-time IPSWA Class 4A First Team honoree. As a senior, he was a Des Moines Register All-State Elite Team and Class 4A First Team selection and the Telegraph Herald All-Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year while averaging 21.9 points per game and ranking second among Class 4A players in field goals made (166) and third in total points scored (416). In his junior season, he averaged 21.0 points per game and finished second in Class 4A for field goal attempts (373), third in field goals made (187), and fifth in total points (482). Duax also averaged 14.8 points per game as a sophomore. He was a McDonald’s All-America nominee, a team captain, a National Honor Society member, and a part of the Dubuque Area Youth Leadership Council before signing with UNI over interest from South Dakota State and Western Illinois among others.
