Keckeisen, ranked second in the nation at 184 pounds, squared off with two-time reigning national champion Brooks in showcase.
AUSTIN, Tex. --- The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Starr Classic returned after a four-year hiatus on Tuesday night as the nation's top wrestlers converged in Texas to showcase the best in college wrestling.
UNI's Parker Keckeisen, ranked 2nd in the nation at 184 pounds became the 15th Panther in school history to be showcased in the All-Star Classic, falling in a 12-8 decision to top-ranked and two-time reigning NCAA champion Aaron Brooks of Penn State.
Tuesday's bout was Keckeisen's 3rd all-time matchup against Brooks in his collegiate career. Keckeisen previously lost to Brooks in a Dec. 20, 2021 dual match at the Collegiate Duals and again later that season at the NCAA Championships in Detroit. The two also met twice during their high school careers in competitions in Fargo, N.D.
Brooks opened the match with four takedowns in the first two periods, with Keckeisen escaping all four while also earning an extra escape after starting the second period on bottom. The Penn State standout picked up a quick escape point to begin the third period before Keckeisen recorded his lone takedown of the night in the final seconds. With over two minutes of riding time, Brooks earned the extra point en route to the 12-8 victory.
