UNI tennis: Brkic, Cardoso claim top-5 singles finishes at MVC Individual Tournament

Panthers conclude fall season with Brkic taking third in Flight 2 singles, Cardoso fifth in Flight 3
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --- UNI women's tennis concluded the fall portion of its 2022-23 schedule on Sunday during the final day of competition at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Individual Tournament, hosted by Missouri State at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
DAY 3
Andrijana Brkic claimed victory against Alexandra Abyasova of Illinois State to secure 3rd place in the flight 2 singles bracket, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Lorena Cardoso placed 5th in flight 3 following the withdrawal of her opponent, Bradley's Kirstin Hailey due to injury.
DAY 2
Cardoso led the Panthers to their lone victory in Saturday's second day of action, picking up a straight sets singles victory of Mary Houston of Missouri State, 6-4, 6-3. Brkic fell short to her opponent Mariia Pukhina of Bradley, 6-4, 6-2, while Dalecka was defeated by Valpraiso's Olivia Czerwonka, 6-4, 6-0. Finishing off the day, Mylavarapu fell to Silva Avakian of Missouri State, 6-2, 6-4.Â
DAY 1
Dalecka and Cardoso led off the competition in flight one double, narrowly dropping a hotly contested match, 8-7 to Drake's Ines Stephani and Rebecca Ehn. The flight two pair of Brkic and Sullivan would drop their first round match, 8-3, while Moreira and Mylavarapu fell to UIC's Zara Ryan and Cora-Lynn von Dungern, 8-3 in flight three.
Dalecka and Brkic picked up the Panthers lone singles victories on Friday, with Dalecka first falling to Agnes Gustafson of UIC in three sets, before rallying past Bradley's Anna Belogliadova, 6-1, 6-7 (7-5), 11-9. Brkic swept Drake's Millie Hagensick in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) to advance into the Saturday semifinal against Mariia Pukhina of Bradley.
