Panthers earn top lineman recognition in back-to-back weeks. Senior lineman previously earned honor on Sept. 13
ST. LOUIS --- UNI offensive lineman Erik Sorensen has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference's (MVFC) Offensive Lineman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The selection marks the second time this season Sorensen has received the honor.
Sorensen and the Panther offensive line opened big holes for the UNI's key playmakers in a 41-20 victory over Missouri State last Saturday. The Panthers totaled 522 yards of total offense, marking the first time since 2007 that UNI has recorded multiple games with over 500 yards.
Sorensen's contributions also helped open up the Panther running game for Dom Williams, who ran for 101 yards and scored four touchdowns, tying a single game school record. Through the air, UNI did not allow a sack and was able to rack up 321 passing yards on the arm of quarterback Theo Day, who found Sergio Morancy for the Panthers' lone passing touchdown on a 27-yard pass in the final seconds of the first half.
Sorensen has started all 8 games for UNI this year after entering the season with Phil Steele MVFC Preseason Third Team Offense honors. Last year, Sorensen started all 12 games as the center and was named to Phil Steele's FCS All-MVFC Fourth Team Offense. He was named a Commissioner's Academic Excellence award winner and earned a spot on the honor roll.Â
The 6-6, 320-pound senior is a captain on the team and hails from Waukee, Iowa. He is majoring in movement and exercise science.  He is the son of Brad, who played football at UNI from 1987-88, and Laurie Sorensen and has two siblings, Kyle and Emilie.
Sorensen and the Panthers return to action on Oct. 29 as UNI visits No. 20 Southern Illinois in MVFC play at 2 p.m. CT in Carbondale.
