Peine becomes third different Panther to earn MVFC weekly honors this season
ST. LOUIS --- UNI offensive lineman Justin Peine has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) Offensive Lineman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. The selection is Peine's first weekly honor from the MVFC in his career.
Peine played a critical role in helping the Panther offense flourish in a 41-14 victory over Utah Tech in non-conference play. UNI totaled 548 yards of offense for the first time since the opening round of the 2017 FCS playoffs thanks to Peine's blocking up front, reaching the end zone five times. Quarterback Theo Day recorded a career day with a career-high four touchdowns accounted for, including three in the air to complement 308 yards passing on a day where UNI was able to strike with quick, deep passes downfield. The Panthers also netted a season-high 229 rushing yards.
Peine has started all seven games for UNI this season and was named to Phil Steele's MVFC Preseason Third Team offense. He appeared in seven games during the fall of 2021 with six starts, being selected to Steele's FCS All-MVFC Fourth Team offense. Peine was also named as a recipient of the MVFC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award, as well as the MVFC Honor Roll.
The 6-6, 329-pound redshirt senior from Parker, Kansas is currently majoring in movement and exercise science with a minor in strength and conditioning and sports administration. He is the son of Robert and Joann Peine, and brother of Trint and Chaylin.
Peine and the Panthers return to action on Oct. 22 as UNI hosts Missouri State in MVFC play at 4 p.m. in the UNI-Dome.
