UNI women's tennis opens season with losses to Creighton and UNO

OMAHA, Neb. - UNI women's tennis opened the 2022 season with losses to Creighton and University of Nebraska Omaha.
Creighton improved to 2-1 with a 7-0 sweep over UNI. At No. 6 singles, Olivia Fain opened with a 6-3 win, but Allison Wilcox of Creighton took the next one, 6-2. Wilcox took the tiebreaker, 10-3.
At No. 3 singles, Andrijana Brkic fought really hard and was only one break down in the first set, but lost the second set with no games won. Emma Carr, playing for the No. 2 spot, had to forfeit due to a shoulder injury.
UNO improved to 3-0, beating UNI 6-1. The highlight of the day was Thaissa Moreira, who won her match playing for the No. 3 spot. She swept Addison Miller of Omaha in the first set, 6-0. The second set was 7-5 in favor of the Miller, and Moreira got the super tiebreak, 10-5, to win the match.
On the No. 1 spot, Lorena Cardoso put on a great performance, winning the first set 6-3, but fell in the super tiebreak 10-8. Unfortunately the Panthers had to forfeit the No. 6 spot due to another injury on the team, giving a free point to UNO.
In doubles play, No. 2 and 3 spots lost 6-2 and 6-3 respectively, so the No. 1 spot got clinched, giving UNO the doubles point.
