Panther Track and Field competes at Hawkeye invite, King moves up to #6 in US

IOWA CITY, Iowa - UNI track and field's Darius King threw a season-best throw in the shot put to move into sixth place nationally and win the Hawkeye Invitational.
The Panthers were led by seniors Darius King, Isaiah Trousil and Seb Gearhart. King won the shot put with a season's best throw of 19.64 meters, moving King into sixth in the nation. Trousil finished second in the 60-meter dash with a personal best time of 6.71 seconds. Trousil also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.28. Seb Gearhart finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.22. Teammates Ben Daumueller and Chase Knoche finished sixth and seventh, respectively with times of 1:55.20 and 1:55.29 in the 800-meter run.
Payton Marrs placed third in the 3,000-meter run with a personal best time of 8:46.33, demolishing his previous 3,000 time of 9:01.62. Blair Brooks and Carter Morton tied for second place in the high jump with jumps of 2 meters. Morton also placed seventh in the long jump with a jump of 7.01 meters, tying his personal best in this event. Blair Brooks also placed seventh in the triple jump with a personal best of 14.05 meters.
Freshman Parker Kiewiet placed third in the long jump with a jump of 7.28 meters. Kiewiet also finished the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.85, placing fourth. Sophomore Lake Lebahn finished eighth in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:38.53.
Kiewiet, Tate Hookham, Gearhart and Deumueller combined to take seventh in the 4x400 with a time of 3:20.58. Northern Iowa's B team in the 4x400 meter relay aided by Chase Knoche, Bowen Gryp, Bill Mukhtar, and Karson Kleve finished eighth with a time of 3:25.67.
For the women, Marin Ehler finished eighth in the shot put and ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.49 meters and 16.96 meters, respectively. Junior Mari Shavers placed fifth in the weight throw with a personal best toss of 17.95 meters, moving her to fifth in the Missouri Valley. Senior Morgan Nealey placed fifth in the shot put with a season's best throw of 14.05 meters. Junior Auriona Kimbrough finished fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.62 moving her to fifth in the Missouri Valley. Grace Schaefer placed seventh in the 800, stopping the clock at 2:23.22, setting her fourth in the Missouri Valley. The women's 4x400 team of Jill Bennett, Kimbrough, Noel James and Ainsley Schlicher finished sixth in 3:55.76.
Up next, the Panthers host the Mark Messersmith Open at home in the UNI-Dome Jan. 20-21.
