Still nets first collegiate goal, but Panthers fall to Flames in the Windy City.
CHICAGO — The UNI soccer team put up a strong offensive effort, but came up short in a 3-1 road loss to the UIC Flames on Sunday at Flames Field in Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) action.
The Panthers outshot the Flames on offense by a 16-12 margin, along with shots on goal in a 7-5 margin. UIC took advantage of their scoring opportunities connecting on three of their five shot attempts on goal. Freshman Audrey Still would score UNI's sixth team goal of the season and the first of her collegiate career in the 77th minute on a penalty kick opportunity.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNI would have the game's first scoring opportunity, as Allison Flies recorded a shot on target in the eighth minute of play. The Flames would break the scoreless tie in the 21st minute with Rebecca Ruggiero connecting on a right-footed goal to give UIC an early 1-0 lead. The Panthers tried to convert an equalizer midway through the match, as Ella Ubben recorded two shot attempts but couldn't find the back of the net.
UIC capitalized on another scoring opportunity in the 35th minute, with Jennifer Rodriguez just getting the ball over the head of UNI goalkeeper Hailey Luedtke to make it 2-0 in favor of the Flames.
The Panthers tried to get on the board early in the second half with Still putting a shot on net in the 48th minute, which was saved by UIC's Sidney Lazenby. Kacy Kuehl followed with another shot on target in the 51st minute but couldn't convert on the try. UNI created a few more opportunities on offense in the 64th minute with Kylie Knief putting one on net, followed by a shot on goal from Alli Saviano in the 68th, but both were saved by Lazenby.
The Flames would extend their lead in the 76th minute with Riley Cunningham connecting on a try to put UIC up 3-0. After a penalty committed by UIC in the box, Still converted on a penalty kick in the 77th minute to put UNI on the board at 3-1.
Still led Northern Iowa in shots on goal with two in the contest. Kuehl, Flies, Knief and Franck each had one attempt on target. Ubben and Still led the Panthers in shot attempts with four each on the day. Luedtke recorded two saves in the contest while allowing three goals in the match.

Northern Iowa sits in ninth ahead of UIC with five points in the league table and could finish anywhere from fourth to sixth should it make the top-six field necessary to qualify for the conference tournament.
- Audrey Still is the fifth different UNI player to score a goal this year, joining Ella Ubben (2), Kailey O'Brien, Abi Roberts and Ella McGinnis (1).
- Panther goalkeeper Hailey Luedtke's 75 total saves and 5.7 saves per game both lead the MVC.
- Jenna Scholz made her first start as a Panther on Sunday after making three starts last season at Alabama State, while freshman Keira Bogott started her first career match as well.
