Panthers Wrap Second Day at Gibson Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – UNI track and field earned an event win from graduate-student Kyler Yodts in the men's hammer throw, and notched seven top-five finishes at the close of the second day of competition at the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. on Friday. The Panther men lead the field with a team score of 31, while the women are fifth in the team standings with 15 points.
Yodts garnered a first-place finish with a personal-best toss of 63.21m in the men's hammer throw, which moved him to second all-time in the category at UNI. Sophomore Cameron Jones posted a third-place finish in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 55.83m. In the women's hammer throw, senior Anna Hoyman led the Purple and Gold, landing second with a personal-best toss of 58.44m. Posting a mark of 48.00m in the men's javelin, sophomore Thai Thompson landed second.
On the track, graduate-student Elijah Hicks stopped the clock at 21.70 for a personal-best in the 200 meters, placing third. Freshman Libby Wedewer led the Panthers in the women's 200 meters, clocking a personal-best of 24.50 to place sixth.
At the close of the men's decathlon, sophomore Zack Butcher finished second with 6238 points and freshman Carter Morton posted 6148 points to place fourth.
The Gibson Invitational concludes on Saturday. Track events will begin at 11 a.m. with the women's 100-meter trials and field events will start at 11:30 a.m. (ET) with the men's and women's long jump.
