Panthers Drop Two on Day 1 of Rock Chalk Challenge

Lawrence, Kansas - UNI Softball finished 0-2 on the first day of the Rock Chalk Challenge, falling to South Dakota State 1-2, and Kansas 1-4.

Game 1 - UNI vs. South Dakota State | L, 1-2
The Panthers lone run came from a Sammey Bunch home run in the 5^th inning tying the game up at 1-1. The Jackrabbits would later score one run in the Top of the 7^th making the score 2-1. UNI couldn't get the bats going and would lose the first game to the Jackrabbits 2-1.

Sophomore Kailyn Packard (5-3) threw a complete game for the Panthers. Packard went all seven innings, giving up eight hits, two runs, one earned, striking out six, while only walking one.

At the plate, the Panthers recorded three hits. One being a home run from Senior Senior Sammey Bunch that would be the lone run of the game. Freshman Daryn Lamprecht and Sophomore Taylor also recorded a hit a piece.

Game 2 - UNI vs Kansas | L, 1-4
Offensively, Senior Sammey Bunch went 1-for-4 with a triple with one run and Freshman Daryn Lamprecht went 1-for-2 with one double for UNI in a 4-1 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks in game two on the first day of the Rock Chalk Challenge.

Junior Erica Oler (0-3) got the ball to start for UNI (7-10) and took the loss. The south paw gave up four runs, all earned, on eight hits, struck out four while walking none.

The Panthers got on the scoreboard first, starting in top of the 1^st inning. The inning started with a triple to right field from Sammey Bunch. Bunch would score two batters later on a fielder's choice when Emmy Wells was thrown out at first from a hard-hit ground ball to the second baseman. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Kanas scored four runs. Two would come in the bottom of the 1^st, one in the 3^rd, and another in the 6^th.

The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, March 13, when they will take on both South Dakota State and Kansas again to end the Rock Chalk Challenge. The first game is set for 11:00 am CT and the second Game 2 is set for the first pitch at 4:00 pm CT. Games by be pushed back due to significant weather.
