
Panthers Set to Compete at Ted Nelson Dual

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - UNI Track and Field heads to Mankato, Minn. to challenge Minnesota State at the Ted Nelson Dual meet on Saturday. No spectators will be allowed in Myers Field House, but a live stream will be available. The meet kicks off at 1:00 p.m.
Setting Personal Bests
The Panthers competed last Friday at the Friday Night Lights meet hosted by Wartburg in Waverly, Iowa. Sophomore Jack Sumners clocked a personal best time of 8.13 in the 60-meter hurdles, claiming gold and shifting to first in the Missouri Valley Conference for the 60-meter hurdles to date. Redshirt senior Aleenah Marcucci also set a PR in the 60-meter hurdles, placing first in her heat during the prelims. She did not compete in the final. Also posting personal bests and first-place finishes were Sophia Jungling in the mile (5:03.47) and freshman Matt Davis in the high jump. Davis tied for first with fellow Panther, senior Cameron Cantrall, with a mark of 1.96m.
The Panthers notched an additional eight first-place finishes while at Wartburg, including victories in the women's 200m, women's 800m, women's high jump, women's pole vault, men's and women's shot put, men's 400m, and men's weight throw.Â
Ranked in the NCAAÂ
Senior Darius King ranks fourth in the NCAA in the men's shot put category. King recorded a personal best and school-record throw of 20.06 meters on Jan. 22 at the Jack Jennett Invitational. King is the first Panther to throw over 20 meters in indoor or outdoor competition.Â
Leading the MVC
With the MVC Championship at the end of the month, the Panthers currently lead the conference in seven events. After their performances in Waverly, Sumners and senior Tess Roorda sit in the top spots for the men's 60m hurdles and women's 5000 meters. The Panthers are also leading in the men's 200 meters, women's 4x400 meter relay, women's long jump, men's shot put, and men's heptathlon.
