Panthers begin the regular season on the road in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI - After cruising to an 83-58 win in the second half of their exhibition game over Truman State, the Panthers will begin the non-conference season with a WNIT rematch.Â
The UNI women's basketball team will make its way to St. Louis for a game with the Billikens. The two teams last saw each other in the postseason during the Rockford Regional Finals, of the WNIT tournament. The Panthers were the winners of that match 58-50 moving onto the WNIT semifinals. Tuesday's game is set for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+ from Chaifetz Arena.Â
THE PANTHERS:
- In eight previous meetings in regular season action, the Panthers went 6-1 against the Billikens. The majority of those games have been won on the road in St. Louis.
- In their lone exhibition contest, the Panthers had a well rounded offensive attack, getting 50% of their points against Truman State contributed by players off the bench. All but two players scored a basket for UNI.Â
- The Panthers will have yet another challenging nonconference schedule. Six of those foes (Saint Louis, Iowa, Creighton, South Dakota State, Iowa State, and Oregon State) played in postseason tournaments last year with three ranked in the Associated Press Preseason Poll (No. 9 Iowa, No. 12 Iowa State, No. 14 Oregon State).
- UNI garnered three first-place votes in the 2021-22 Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll. The Panthers landed in third place overall for a ninth consecutive year at third or better. Fifth-year point guard Karli Rucker represents UNI on the Preseason All-MVC Team.
- The Panthers are coming off a historic 2020-21 season that featured their first-ever trip to the Women's National Invitation Tournament semifinals. UNI went 17-13 overall and 11-7 within the Missouri Valley Conference for a fourth-place finish prior to its postseason run.
- UNI also excelled in the classroom during this past season. The Panthers finished 15th nationally for Division I programs in grade point average to earn a spot on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25. UNI's 3.663 GPA is the best ever recorded by the team since the WBCA began its honor roll recognition in 1996.
THE BILLIKENS:
- The Billikens won their only exhibition contest of the year against Illinois-Springfield 79-50.
- Two members of the Billikens roster earned preseason mentions from the Atlantic 10 Conference. Senior Ciaja Harbison was named to the All-Conference first team while senior Brooke Flowers was named to the All-Conference third team.Â
- St. Louis was tabbed to finish 4th in the Atlantic 10 Conference through a preseason poll.Â
- In their exhibition game the Billikens were led by Harbison who had a a game-high 16 points. She was one of 4 Billiken players who scored in double-digits against the Prarie Stars.
