CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - In their last game at the UNI Soccer Field for the season, the Northern Iowa women's soccer team came out on top of the Southern Illinois Salukis 3-1.

It may have been a slow start for the Panthers, but they would get the first goal of the game in the 9th minute. A shot from forward Ashley Harrington dribbled into the net behind Salukis goalkeeper Maddy Alaluf after a pass from Lily Caso. UNI would keep up the pace with three corner kicks after the goal along with a shot by forward Lauren Heinsch.

The Panthers would end the half on a high note as defender Sandra Thiman had a shot at a penalty kick after interference from Southern Illinois in the 43rd minute. Thiman's shot to the upper right corner of the goal would go in for the first made penalty kick of her career.

But the Salukis wouldn't go down without a fight as they were able to get their lone goal of the game in the 66th minute. Southern Illinois was awarded a penalty kick after a play made in the penalty box by the Panthers. Saluki midfielder Christy Murauskis would get the goal after the penalty shot.

The Panthers would get the insurance goal they needed to close out the game in the 81st minute. Thiman would find the back of the net for her second of the game after an assist from Ashley Harrington. UNI held off the Salukis two corner kicks to end the game, winning 3-1.

As a team, UNI had 14 shots, 7 on goal, and 9 corner kicks. Individually Thiman led the Panthers with 2 goals and 2 shots. Heinsch led in shots with 5 taken and 2 on goal while Harrington also had a multi-shot game, including a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Chloe Russo made 2 saves on 3 shots taken in her 90-minute performance.

The Panthers play their last game of the regular season on the road. UNI heads to their in-state rivals, the Drake Bulldogs on Thursday, October 28th with game time set for 4 p.m.
