ST. LOUIS --- The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) on Tuesday morning announced its scholar-athlete teams for the 2025 season with six members of the UNI roster earning academic recognition.
Sophia Balistreri, Olivia Bohl, Kennedy Buntenbach, Denise Camarena, Olivia Knoepfle and Macy Smith were all selected to this year's 58-person team. Murray State's Mary Hardy was named this year's MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The nominating stands for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams mirror that of College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly known as CoSIDA. Nominated student-athletes must have participated in 75 percent or started 50% of the team's matches this season, and boast at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average as a sophomore of both academic and athletic standing.
All five field players scored at least one goal for Northern Iowan in 2025, with Buntenbach appearing in goal in 12 matches with a .692 save percentage and 1.73 goals allowed average. Smith led the way for the Panthers with a team-high five goals this season with Knoepfle netting four goals and two from Camarena. Balistreri, Knoepfle and Smith were also named Third Team All-MVC this year.
