Panthers Fall to Cyclones 212-86 in Season Opener

AMES, Iowa - The UNI Swimming and Diving team kicked off the season against Iowa State in Ames Saturday. The Cyclones grabbed the win over the Panthers by a score of 212 to 86.Â
In UNI's first competition since the 2020 MVC Championships last February, the Panthers agreed to travel to Ames to allow Iowa State to have a home meet this season.
Freshman Amber Finke led UNI with three second place finishes on the day in the 100 Back (57.73) and the 200 Back (2:06.24) and the 400 Free Relay (3:38.29) with Clare Christensen, Natalia Verastegui, and Madeline Webb.
Other second place finishes for the Panthers came from Lily Ernst in the 200 Fly (2:10.84), Taylor Hogan in the 3-meter dive (282.45), Anika Lillegard-Bouton in the 500 Free (5:19.61), and Scout Bergwall in the 100 Fly (59.34).
UNI also had third place finishes from Christensen in the 50 Free (24.24), Ernst in the 100 Fly (59.82), Lilegard-Bouton in the 1000 Free (11:03.30), Mia Savicevic in the 100 Breast (1:07.83), Sarah Walpole in the 500 Free (5:26.61), and Jayden Lovell in the 1-meter dive (250.80).
The Panthers will return to the pool February 27th when they host Illinois State in Cedar Falls.
