Three Panthers Lead Heptathlon After Day One

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI Athletes sit in the top three spots in the heptathlon and Erica Loussaert won the Pentathlon shot put to earn a third-place overall finish in the day one of the Jack Jennett Open in the UNI-Dome.
Zack Butcher finished first in the long jump and shot put and second in the 60-meter dash to give himself a score of 2,799 after four events of the heptathlon. He leads Carter Morton by just 68 points. Morton won the high jump and finished second in the shot put and long jump.
Thai Thompson is third, just 11 points behind Morton. He finished first in the 60-meter dash and third in the long jump and high jump. The three UNI athletes are 219 points clear of the fourth-place competitor, Illinois State's Nick Klecki.
The heptathlon concludes tomorrow with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and the 1,000-meter run.
On the women's side, Loussaert won the shot put and finished second in the 60-meter hurdles to earn the third-place finish in the pentathlon. Jordyn Bruce finished first competing unattached. Illinois State's Zofia LeHew finished second.
The Jack Jennett concludes tomorrow. The conclusion of the heptathlon begins at 10 a.m., field events begin at 11 a.m. and track events begin at 1 p.m.
FAN ATTENDANCE
Fans are allowed to attend the event. Fans must enter the SW UNI-Dome entrance. Attendance will be capped at 15% of UNI-Dome seating capacity. Masks must be worn at all times and fans should sit at least eight feet from other groups. Nobody is allowed on the UNI-Dome floor except competing athletes and coaches.
