
UNI Wrestling Opens Big 12 Championship

UNI Wrestling heads to Tulsa for the Big 12 Wrestling Championship at the BOK Center.
• Taylor Lujan moved up to No. 1 in the NCAA in multiple polls and received the top seed at the Big 12 Championship. Bryce Steiert also received the top spot. Jay Schwarm enters the weekend with the No. 2 seed and Michael Blockhus and Max Thomsen are ranked third.Â
• Jay Schwarm, Bruce Steiert and Taylor Lujan all finished in the top three a season ago at the Championship. Max Thomsen and Jack Skudlarczyk finished in the top seven.Â
• Seven Panthers are ranked in various polls. Bryce Steiert and Taylor Lujan are both in the top-six across all polls and Max Thomsen returned to the top-10 in all polls. Jay Schwarm (125), Jack Skudlarczyk (133), Michael Blockhus (141), Max Thomsen (149), Bryce Steiert (174), Taylor Lujan (184) and Carter Isley (285) are all ranked.Â
• The Panther are coming off of a 20-18 win over Wisconsin in the dual season finale in Madison. Jay Schwarm earned a pin fall, Michael Blockhus upset No. 4 Tristan Moran and Isaiah Patton earned a TB3 win to give the Panthers the win.Â
• Taylor Lujan and Bryce Steiert both have Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors. Lujan was named the Big-12 Wrestler of the Week after winning Midlands and picking an MD in the Utah Valley Dual. It is the four of his career and the second on the season for UNI. He earned his 100th win South Dakota State. Steiert earned Big-12 Wrestler of the Week honors after taking second at the Cliff Keen Invite.Â
• Lujan is 23-2 on the season. four other Panther Wrestlers have won 18 or more bouts on year.
• Jay Schwarm is tied for first among Division I wrestlers with 14 DI falls.  He has a total of 15 falls this season and 49 for his career.Â
• The Big 12 received 54 allocations to the NCAA Championship. Each weight class received at least four and the 133 weight class leads the way with eight allocations. Â
