
UNI Women Host No. 21 South Dakota State

Coming off of double-overtime win over Wichita St., the UNI women's basketball team will return to the McLeod Center Saturday afternoon, to take on the No. 21/22 South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
• The Jackrabbits fell to Kansas State, Thursday, for their first loss of the year.  They have toppled No. 15 Iowa State, No. 18 Gonzaga, and Creighton. This will be the first meeting of teams since Nov. 2017. SDSU leads the series 9-3. They jumped into the rankings at No. 22 this week.Â
• After opoening the season with three home games, South Dakota State plays UNI for its second road game in three days. They fell to Kansas State 62-53.
• UNI left Kansas with a double-overtime win Wichita State to carry them into this Saturday's game. Megan Maahs hit a running jumper with 2.2 seconds remaining in 2OT to spur the Panthers to the 93-91 win.
• Five Panthers put up double figures, including, Bre Gunnels with a career-high of 18 points, Megan Maahs with 17 and a layup to secure the win with 2.2 seconds left in overtime, and freshman, Maya McDermott who put up 15 points for her Panther debut. Karli Rucker with 12 and Nicole Kroeger with 13 also added to the teams 93 total points.Â
• South Dakota State was selected second to place in the Summit League Preseason Poll. The Jackrabbits had four teammates, all forwards, earn preseason honors. Paiton Burckhard and Myah Selland were named first team while Tylee Irwin and Tori Nelson were awarded second team honors.
• The updated Missouri Valley Conference schedule was released Friday, Dec.4. The Panthers open the conference schedule with two home games against Missouri State on Jan. 1-2. UNI hosts MSU, Illinois State, Evansville and Loyola in the McLoed Center and plays a home-and-home series with Drake.
• Karli Rucker moved to 18th on the UNI All-Time scoring list. She now has 1,076 career points and is just six points away from Jen Keitel for the 17th all-time spot on the list.
• Megan Maahs is seventh all-time for rebounding with 737. She is six back from Erin Brocka for 6th. If she returns to her sophomore pace (322 rebounds), she can challenge record holder Alex Cook for the top spot in the record book.
• As of Friday, UNI is 1-0 at home and 1-2 on the road so far this season. The Panthers have played four games, tied for the most in the Missouri Valley Conference. Loyola, Illinois State and Southern Illinois have just one game under their belt.Â
