
UNI Wrestling Hosts Utah Valley

UNI Wrestling hosts Utah Valley in the first dual in since facing Nebraska in November. The Panthers enter the weekend with a 0-2 dual record but ranked 16th in the NWCA Coaches Poll. Utah Valley is 1-4 on the season after falling to Fresno State Thursday evening.Â
• Jay Schwarm (125), Michael Blockhus (141), Max Thomsen (149), Bryce Steiert (174), Taylor Lujan (184), Jacob Holschlag (197) and Carter Isley (285) are all ranked in the top-15 in their weight classes in various polls. Michael Blockus (141) and Carter Isley (285) jumped into the rankings after a strong showing at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite.Â
• Utah Valley comes into West Gym with four ranked wrestlers. Taylor Lamont is ranked 26th at 133 by Track Wrestling, Kimball Bastian is ranked ninth by Track Wrestling at 174 but hasn't wrestled since the Cliff Keen Invite. Brothers Tanner Orndorff (197) and Tate Orndorff (285) are both ranked. Tanner is 19th in track and Tate is seventh.Â
• Taylor Lujan and Bryce Steiert are both 14-2 on the season. Lujan won the title of the Midlands Championship while Steiert earned Big-12 Wrestler of the Week honors after taking second at the Cliff Keen Invite.Â
• The Panthers lost both duals by one bout, falling to Northwestern 24-20 and Nebraska 23-19.Â
• Three Panthers have met their UVU opponents already this season. Jay Schwarm pinned UVU's William Edelblute in 1:00 at the Cliff Keen Invite. Jack Skudlarczyk defeated Taylor LaMont 4-1 in double overtime in Vegas. UVU's Tate Orndorff defeated Carter Isley 4-0 also at Vegas.Â
• UNI finished second at the Midlands for the second season in a row. Taylor Lujan became the ninth Midlands Champion for the Panthers and four UNI wrestlers placed at the meet.Â
• Six Panthers earned individual titles at the Harold Nichols Open. UNI finished fourth at the Cliff Keen Invite after six Panthers placed, including a second-place finish for Steiert.Â
