Thompson, Lorenz Lead Panthers at Jack Jennett

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Brooke Lorenz took second in the shot put and the long jump and third in the 60-meter hurdles and the 800-meter run to finish third in the pentathlon with a score of 3380 to highlight day one at the Jack Jennett Invite.
Lorenz led a pack of Panthers that included Maria Gonzalez who finished fifth with a score of 3,116. She was second in the high jump to highlight her day. Erica Loussaert was sixth after finishing fourth in the 60-meter hurdles and the shot put.
Freshman Morgan Johnk made her pentathlon debut and had a strong showing in the high jump, and tied for second place. She finished the day with 2,705 points.
Aleenah Marcucci who is redshirting this year for the Panthers competed unattached finished second with a score of 3,572 with a first-place finish in the hurdles and the long jump. Illinois State's Jordan Bruce finished first with a score of 3,638.
Three Panther men competed in the heptathlon and made it through four events.
Freshman Thai Thompson blew away his previous best in the high jump. Thursday, he tied for first with a leap of 2.00-meters (6-feet-6.75). His previous college best was 1.85-meters (6-feet-0.75) at the Hawkeye Invitational just two weeks ago. His jump would put him tied for fourth on the MVC high jump list to-date this season.
Thompson picked up third-place finishes in the long jump and the heptathlon and sits second with a day-one total of 2,866.
Sophomore Michael Santi also notched a career-best in the high jump with a jump of 1.88m (6-foot-2) and sits fourth with a score of 2,754 after day one.
Freshman Zack Butcher is fifth with a score of 2,661 after winning the long jump with a leap of 6.80-meters (22-feet-3.75). His jump would place him ninth on the MVC list for the long jump on the season.
The heptathlon continues tomorrow at 10 a.m. with 60-meter hurdles beginning at 10 a.m.
The rest of the meet continues Friday as well with field events beginning at 11:15 a.m. and track events beginning at 1 p.m.
