UNI Wins First Eight Bouts in 32-6 Win Over Northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. – UNI Wrestling jumped out to a 32-0 lead, picking up bonus points at 125, 174 and 184 to earn a dominating 32-6 win over Northern Colorado that also marked the return of Jacob Holschlag to the lineup at 197.

Jacob Schwarm set the tone early with a first-period pin, his 10th fall of the season. He racked up a 10-0 lead before earning the fall in with 31 seconds remaining in the first period. The win sparked a streak that saw the Panthers earn wins in their next eight weights.

At 133, Jack Skudlarczyk topped No. 22 Mosha Swartz 10-3 behind a second-period reversal and a four-point near fall.

There was high drama at 141 where Michael Blockhus needed a last-second escape to tie the bout at 4-4. He picked up the takedown in overtime to earn the 6-4 sudden victory win.

Max Thomsen earned a 6-1 win at 149 and Keaton Geerts matched his score at 157 to give the Panthers an 18-0 lead heading into the intermission.

After the break, UNI continued where they left off. Austin Yant rode out the entire third period and picked up a 2-0 win at 165 to put UNI up 21-0.

Bryce Steiert dominated from the opening whistle and picked up a 16-1 technical fall in 3:36 to put the Panthers up 26-0.

Taylor Lujan jumped out to 9-0 lead and eventually led 13-2 before picking up a third-period pin to give UNI a 32-0 lead entering the final two weights.

Holschlag returned to the mat for the first time since Nov. 17 but fell to Northern Colorado's Alan Clothier 4-0.

At 285, Bryce Esmoil made his dual debut and rode his opponent for the final two periods of his bout, but fell 4-2 to set the final team score at 32-6.

The Panthers are now 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in Big 12 Duals. Northern Colorado falls to 1-4 and 1-1 on the year.
