Panther Wrestling Travels to the Rockies

UNI Wrestling heads to foothills of the Rockies for a pair of duals, meeting Northern Colorado Friday evening in Greeley and Air Force Sunday afternoon Colorado Springs. The Panthers enter the week with a 2-3 dual record after splitting a pair of duals at West Gym, falling to South Dakota State and topping No. 19 Missouri.Â
• Jay Schwarm (125), Michael Blockhus (141), Max Thomsen (149), Bryce Steiert (174), Taylor Lujan (184), and Carter Isley (285) are all ranked in the in their weight classes in various polls. Michael Blockus (141) and Carter Isley (285) jumped into the rankings after a strong showing at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite.Â
• Northern Colorado enters the weekend with a 1-3 dual record. Their only win coming against West Virginia. Air Force is 2-2 on the year with wins coming against DII schools Western Colorado and CSU-Pueblo.Â
• Four Northern Colorado wrestlers are ranked in the FloWrestling Rankings. Mosha Schwartz (133), Andrew Alirez (149), Jacob Seely (197) and Dalton Robertson (285) are all ranked.Â
• Taylor Lujan and Bryce Steiert both have Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors. Lujan was named the Big-12 Wrestler of the Week after winning Midlands and picking an MD in the Utah Valley Dual. It is the four of his career and the second on the season for UNI. He earned his 100th win last Friday against South Dakota State. Steiert earned Big-12 Wrestler of the Week honors after taking second at the Cliff Keen Invite.Â
• Lujan and Bryce Steiert are both 17-2 on the season. Three Panther Wrestlers are 14-6 on the year.Â
• UNI finished second at the Midlands for the second season in a row. Taylor Lujan became the ninth Midlands Champion for the Panthers and four UNI wrestlers placed at the meet.Â
• Six Panthers earned individual titles at the Harold Nichols Open. UNI finished fourth at the Cliff Keen Invite after six Panthers placed, including a second-place finish for Steiert.
